The CX-7 was originally launched into the automotive marketplace in 2006 and found itself discontinued three years ago. The CX-5 then appeared as a virtual successor to the model line, although it was slightly smaller than the CX-7. After a short hiatus, the vehicle is said to be making a triumphant comeback in the form of the 2017 Mazda CX-7.
2017 Mazda CX-7 – Engine Options
Under the hood of the crossover, the automaker has opted not to downsize, but to do what they refer to as “rightsizing”. Therefore, consumers will note that the engine options will be slightly bigger as compared to its impending competition. The base model for the line will garner its power from a 2.0 liter power unit that will deliver an output of upwards of 200 horsepower. Consumers will also have the option of choosing a 2.5 liter engine that is capable of an output of upwards of 250 horsepower. There will also be a diesel variant that will present as a 2.2 liter turbo diesel unit able to provide 173 horsepower. All of the available engine options will find themselves intelligently mated with either a manual or automatic six speed gearbox. At this time, there are no official specifications regarding the vehicle fuel economy rating, yet it has been rumored that it will be enhanced from the previous model.
2017 Mazda CX-7 – Exterior and Interior Design
Given the fact that it has been three years since the 2017 Mazda CX-7 has been in production, the latest offering will present to consumers as an all new model. Per early reports, and a sprinkling of rumor, the new model will offer slightly different characteristics as compared to its predecessor. One issue that troubled the previous model was the fact that it truly did not belong in the crossover segment. It was better suited for a category between mid-sized and compact crossover vehicles. Additionally, even if the previous model had been moved to another class, it simply was not competitive enough for the crossover segment overall. With that being said, the upcoming offering of the 2017 Mazda CX-7 will be slightly larger making it closer to that of a mid-sized crossover vehicle. The platform for the crossover will be new affording its interior with more than enough room for three rows of seating.
There are a number of reports that are stemming from unofficial automotive websites that indicate that the new crossover will be made available in both seven seat and five seat configurations. The design language for the vehicle will be that of the automotive giant’s new “KODO-Soul of Motion” design language, with design solutions that have been borrowed from both the 2017 Mazda CX-7 and the CX-5 model variants. Additionally, the new Mazda crossover vehicle will be outfitted with the latest SkyActive technologies.
